A weather monitor, forecast and alarm system for the Beijing area has begun its probationary period. The system can forecast sandstorms four days in advance.
The Bejing Weather Bureau has announced the system can monitor sand movements and accurately judge the degree and timing of the storm.
China has made efforts to eliminate sand storms by planting more trees and greenery, which has met limited success.
This year, a severe sandstorm turned the sky yellow in Lanzhou, capital of Gansu Province in western China and inconvenienced residents of Shenyang, capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province.
