N.Zealand grabs 2 swimming golds

NEW ZEALAND pocketed three of the six Universiade swimming golds at Longgang Universiade Center in Shenzhen on August,14th.

Glenn Snyders of New Zealand and Giedrius Titenis of Lithuania shared the 200m breaststroke gold medals in 2 minutes 10.85 seconds. Kazuki Otsuda of Japan won the bronze.

The womens 800m freestyle was won by Lauren Boyle of New Zealand in 8:26.30 secs, while the silver went to Haley Anderson of the United States and the bronze to Melania Costa Schmid of Spain.

Chinas Lu Ying won the 50m butterfly in 25.98 seconds, while Australian swimmers Marieke Guehrer and Alice Mills bagged silver and bronze.

The gold medal for the mens 200m butterfly went to Laszlo Cseh of Hungary who finished in 1:55.87 secs with the silver going to Robert Bollier of the United States. Hidemasa Sano of Japan took bronze.

LIt felt much better today compared with swimming at the World Aquatics Championship in Shanghai earlier this year. This has been my best performance this year but not as good as at the Beijing Olympics, Cseh said.

Japans Ryosuke Irie won gold for mens 200m backstroke in 1:56.01 secs. Australia won the womens 4x100 freestyle relay in 3:40.03 secs while China settled for bronze.
